  1. The Aztec word for chocolate is 'chocolatl'
  2. Hernando Cortez introduced chocolate to Spain in 1521 after conquering Mexico
  3. Cocoa pods grow on the sides of the cocoa tree branches, not the ends
  4. Eating chocolate (as opposed to drinking chocolate) was not introduced until the 1850s
  5. Removing the husk from a cocoa nib is known as 'Winnowing'
  6. Milk chocolate was invented in 1867 by Daniel Peter in Switzerland
  7. The machine for mixing the cocoa, cocoa butter and sugar is called a 'Mélangeur'
