Sunday, 24 February 2008 7 things you can check before taking your car for its MOT
- Check all the lights are working
- Test that all tyres are good, the correct pressure and within tread limit
- Make sure all doors can be opened from the inside and outside of the car
- Test all seatbelts lock and recoil
- Check the handbreak holds the car, and ideally takes no more than nine clicks on the ratchet
- Test the breaks: whilst the car is in motion, take your hands off the steering wheel and break. The car should not only stop, but should not veer left or right
- Check that nothing is loose or sticking out from the car's bodywork
