Tuesday, 17 March 2009 7 problems with the new Chatswood-Epping Rail Link (Sydney, Australia) before it even opened

Submission time again, this month from regular submitter Elephino. Cheers mate :D

  1. It was originally designed to have a bridge, not a really long tunnel
  2. It was originally designed to go from Chatswood to Parramatta
  3. Due to the move to a tunnel, a station had to be removed from the planning due to being too deep underground
  4. The tunnel flooded at least twice as they were digging too close to the Lane Cove River
  5. The tracks lifted after being installed (they had actually been warned this would happen)
  6. It was over 3 billion dollars over budget and over 3 years behind schedule
  7. After announcing, in late January, an opening date of February 22, the line opened on February 23

Turns out there are also cracks in the tunnel as they didn't compact some of the earth properly.
